We have a country to save

I’ve been reading letters to the editor over the past several weeks in what appears to be a concerted effort by a few to undermine three members of the Alpena Public School Board. Their efforts are to obtain sufficient signatures to recall them and subject them to the Nov 4 general election in which it’s hoped they would be defeated, replaced by progressive liberal candidates.

Upon examining the grounds for this recall it appears it is largely based on administrative issues and not educational issues. For example, turning down grant dollars for a rain garden. On it’s face this would beg additional detail as to why they would do this. Well, of course the reasons are not listed in the letter, but if one dug into the issue it would become very clear as to why it was not supported.

The three board members under attack were elected by a majority who wanted to right a sinking ship and refocus our education system on things that matter; reading, math etc. and to turn our student proficiency scores around. There is increasing evidence that returning to fundamental basic education will achieve the desired results. Suggest you look at what’s being called the Mississippi Miracle, or what’s happening in Arkansas.

As a country we need to be very concerned about the rise of socialism and the recent elections in New York and elsewhere. These elections are the results of a disgruntled youth who believe America is a racist, oppressive county that deserves to fall. Rather than teaching American Exceptionalism, and the basics of education, our public schools have been focused on ideological agendas, pronouns, gender affirming care, DEI, bathroom policies, the green scam etc. etc.

Yes, we live in the greatest country ever founded and unless we change course, we risk loosing the light that has been the girder of our success and strength.
