We have the right to recall, sign the petitions

The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education has a problem. Multiple members of the school board are casting votes that waste taxpayer money that is supposed to fund our schools. Their names are Eric Lawson, Monica Dziesinski, and Sarah Costain. All three members have “voted no to a $150,000 grant for a rain garden at Alpena High School”. Who turns down free money? All three members “voted yes to hire a second law firm, Kallman Legal Group for Alpena Public Schools.” Lawson and Dziesinski “voted yes to award a paving contract to a higher bidder.” Lastly, “during 2025, her first year in office, Costain missed 30% of all school board meetings.” Every statement quoted has been approved as clear and factual by the Alpena County Election Commission and is listed on every recall petition.

Over the last two years we have seen these three members engage in financial mismanagement, ethical violations, and misconduct. It was their actions – and their actions alone – that led a group of citizens to pursue their recall. Under the Michigan Constitution

Article II – ELECTIONS Section 8 Recalls the people of the state of Michigan have the constitutional right to recall elected officials from office.

Our rights in the Michigan Constitution are clear, we have the right to recall our elected officials. Some people our canvassers speak to say that they are afraid to sign. My message to them is that if you are afraid of retribution that should be your number one reason to sign the recall petitions for all three members. Your rights are clearly defined in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution and in Article II Section 8 of the Michigan Constitution. We must hold our elected officials accountable. I strongly encourage my fellow citizens to sign the recall petitions.
