BEVERLY ZOE STANEK

Beverly Zoe Stanek recently of Amherst, N.Y. passed away at The William M. & Phyllis Bender Care Center of Hospice Buffalo on Feb. 9, 2017. She was born on Oct. 26, 1924 in Bay Shore, Mich., to Arthur F. and Georgia (Redfield) Burnett. She was known by friends and family as Zoe. She attended Petoskey High School and married Edward J. Stanek on Nov. 21, 1942 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in the Bohemian Settlement of East Jordan, Mich. She and her husband lived for over 50 years in Alpena and were members of St. Bernard’s Parish, the Elks Club and the Disabled American Veterans, where Zoe participated in the Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Zoe is survived by her daughters, Charlotte J. (Lloyd) Williams, Annette L. (Robert) Leopard and Valerie L. Stanek (Moon-Hyun Chu); as well as eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Dolores Cain and Mazie Sowles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Zoe was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Stanek, her daughter, Beverly D. Carstens, her sisters Marion Burnett and Shirley O’Brien, and her brothers Arthur R. Burnett and Charles W. Burnett.

She was employed by J.C. Penney from 1967 to 1986 when she retired.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Bernard’s late in June and her remains will be laid to rest with her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Bannan Funeral Home. Exact dates and times to be announced.
