Cleanup and e-waste day to be held June 6
ALPENA — The Northeast Michigan Materials Management Authority (NMMMA) will host a cleanup and e-waste day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 6 at Northern Lights Arena, according to a Saturday press release.
There is a suggested donation of $10 per vehicle to help support the event. The county wide cleanup day is for Alpena County residents. Any out of county resident must purchase a membership for the year. The cost of membership is $60. Funding is provided through donations.
The NMMMA cleanup day is not funded by the surcharge on Alpena County tax bills.
Acceptable materials include scrap metal, glass, batteries, and ink jet cartridges/toner cartridges, which can all be recycled for free.
Mattresses/box springs, appliances, tires, electronics, and household garbage will also be accepted for a cost.
Pricing for recyclables are as follows:
– Mattresses/box springs are $20 each, with one unit free.
– Appliances are $30 each with one unit free.
– Tires are $5 each on or off rim.
– Flat screen televisions and printers are $10 each. CRT televisions are $30 each. All other electronics are free.
– Household garbage will cost $8 per bag and $20 for each piece of furniture.
The follow items will not be accepted:
– Hot tubs or boats.
– Equipment filled with gas or oil.
– Tires larger than four feet tall or wider than 12 inches.
– Airplane tires, construction loader tires, forestry tires of any kind, earth mover equipment tires, sold/gel filled tires, golf cart tires on rims, inner tubes, or rubber tracks of any kind.
-Construction/demolition waste including bricks, concrete, asphalt, shingles, drywall, toilets, et cetera.
-Recyclable materials like cardboard, paper, and plastic.
-Household hazardous waste including aerosols, solvents, paint, light bulbs, fertilizers, sharps, et cetera.
NMMMA leadership reminds those participating to make sure to enter the event using the last entrance to the arena.
