Alpena girls varsity swim loses to John Glenn, breaks individual personal best records

ALPENA — The Wildcats varsity girls swim team faced the John Glenn Bobcats at home on Tuesday, ultimately falling 53-111.

However, the night was marked by notable individual performances and continued growth.

Despite the outcome, Wildcats head coach Jennifer Johnson expressed her pride in the team’s development this season.

“Although it was not a win, growth and development is evident to the building of a strong culture and a successful program,” Johnson said in a statement. “The team has shown so much progress this season by continuing to PR in each meet. As coaches, we could not be more proud of them and look forward to continued effort.”

The meet began with a strong start as Hailey Diemond and Gabriella Tolan hit their personal bests in the 200-yard Freestyle. Eva Trainer followed suit, recording her best in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

In the 50-yard Freestyle, Diemond, Maddox McClintic, Allie Donajkowski, and Madalyn Farley also recorded their best times.

Team captains Sarah Rabbideau and Tryst Bukowiecki also had top-ranked performances, with Rabbideau achieving her best in the 100-yard Butterfly and Bukowiecki in the 100-yard Freestyle.

Addison Wesaw, Madalyn Farley, and Allie Donajkowski also improved the 100-yard Freestyle.

Bailee Diemond rounded out the night of personal records, securing her best time in the 100-yard Backstroke.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats will host Oscoda on Oct. 1 for their next meet at home.
