The Alpena High School varsity football team fell in its on-the-road opener to Ludington by a staggering 67-0, according to the website MaxPreps.

The school did not send a game summary to The News by its Friday deadline, and no further information was available on MaxPreps.

The Wildcats play their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday against Marquette at Wildcat Stadium.

SUPIRAN TIES FOR 4TH IN ASSISTS

Varsity Alpena High School soccer player Jack Supiran has tied for all-time fourth place statewide for the number of assists in one game, Coach Gregg Supiran said Friday.

Jack Supiran had six assists in the Wildcats’ record-breaking 13-0 mercy win over Bay City Central on Thursday, the coach said.

In that game, Alpena’s Owen Kaiser set a new school record for the fastest goal scored in a game, finding the back of the net just 18 seconds after kickoff.

The previous record, set in 2016, was 29 seconds.

Alpena mercied Bay City Central, taking the victory at halftime because of a Michigan High School Athletic Association rule that gives victory to a team leading by at least eight points at the half.

POSEN FALLS, 28-26

The Posen High School football squad lost its opener on Thursday to Charlton Heston Academy 26-28, Coach Greg Pietsch said.

Posen’s John Ennest had 158 yards and two touchdowns. Eli Chojnacki had 42 yards and a touchdown. Foxx Petersonn had 50 yards rushing and one receiving touchdown. Alex Soik had 35 yards receiving.

On defense, Ennest had 17 tackles and Chojnacki had 16 tackles.

Alcona’s Cole Upper finished ninth overall among small schools with a time of 17:52, earning himself a medal.
