Winter Weather Advisory issued for Northeast Michigan

A National Weather Service map showing the current weather advisories in northern Michigan

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Alpena County and the surrounding area, including Presque Isle, Montmorency, and Alcona counties.

The weather alert takes effect at 4 a.m. Thursday and is slated to be canceled at 4 p.m. later in the day, unless weather dictates an extension of the advisory or other watches or warnings are warranted.

Heavy snow of up to seven inches is expected Thursday, which could create hazardous travel conditions for the morning and afternoon commute.

The snow is expected to be heavy and difficult to shovel due to the moderate temperatures that will accompany the storm. Temperatures are expected to linger in the low thirties for a brunt of the day.
