ALPENA — Alpena Police Department released a press release on a fatal collision that occurred early this afternoon.

At 12:55 p.m., area law enforcement and first responders were dispatched to U.S.-23 N near Hamilton Road for a two-vehicle personal injury car crash.

Officers responded to the scene and found the driver of a northbound pickup truck had crossed the center line and struck a southbound transportation van head-on.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena and is in critical condition. The passenger of the pickup truck died on the scene.

The driver of the transportation van was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena and later died from their injuries.

The collision remains under investigation, according to the press release.
