PRESQUE ISLE — Local teens can spend a week of their summer immersed in nature and science at the 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp at Camp Chickagami in Presque Isle.

At the July 31 to Aug. 6 camp, 13- to 15-year-olds, or those entering eighth through tenth grade in the fall, will receive hands-on lessons from natural resources experts in fields such as Great Lakes coastal and fisheries management, wildlife, forestry, geology, and environmental education.

The camp, sponsored by Michigan State University, includes natural resources recreation activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, fossil hunting, archery, photography, and evenings around a campfire.

First-time campers also go charter fishing and learn to filet their catch.

The $500 registration fee includes food, lodging, and activity costs. Participants can apply for a $2,000 MSU scholarship.

Those interested can visit canr.msu.edu/4_h_great_lakes_natural_resources_camp for more information and to register. The camp is limited to 70 participants.
