High winds cause widespread outages in Northeast Michigan
ALPENA — High Winds caused power outages in several Northeast Michigan counties Friday evening.
Alpena Power Company reported multiple power outages in Alpena, Ossineke, Spruce and the surrounding areas because of a transmission failure from the company’s power supplier, a recording on the company’s telephone line said. Crews were working to restore services as quickly and safely as possible, and restoral times were not available for any of those areas.
Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op also reported power outages. While there were 38 outages in Northeast Michigan as of 6 p.m. Friday, but power was restored nearly three hours later.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Monique Runyan said, as of 6 p.m., peak wind speeds are about 35 knots, which is about about 45 miles per hour. A wind advisory, issued by the National Weather Service in Gaylord, ended at 7 p.m.
