ALPENA TOWNSHIP — No one was hurt in a minor Alpena Township house fire that the resident had mostly under control before firefighters arrived, the township Fire Department said in a news release.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. today to a home in the 1900 block of Bradbury Road on a report of a fire in the bathroom of a home. When they arrived, firefighters found the home full of smoke and the resident inside. The resident “had knocked down a majority of the fire with an extinguisher” before firefighters arrived, but township crews quickly extinguished what was left and cleared the home of smoke.

“Major damage was avoided,” firefighters said.
