Flags lowered for soldier with ties to Hillman

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered flags lowered today through Thursday in honor of the upcoming funeral for soldier and former Hillman resident Bradly Walsh.

Walsh was born in Kalamazoo in 1998 and grew up in Hillman, Whitmer’s office said in a news release. After graduating from Otsego Adult Education in 2017, he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed with the 73rd Transportation Co., 10th Transportation BN, 7th Transportation BDE, at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia.

Walsh was in his third year of active duty when he died on Jan. 8, 2020. He was 21 years old. Whitmer’s office did not list the cause of his death.

A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church before he is laid to rest at Harwick Cemetery in Mattawan on Thursday, Whitmer said.
