ALCONA – Alcona Schools proudly announced Arthur Good as the 2026 recipient of the Alcona Community Schools Distinguished Alumni Award during the Class of 2026 Senior Awards Night held on May 13.
Established in 2023, the Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes outstanding graduates of Alcona Community Schools who have made a meaningful difference in their community, country, and/or world through public service, leadership, character, and commitment to others. Recipients are selected by a committee of Alcona Community Schools staff members, Board of Education members, and community representatives. Honorees receive an award and are permanently recognized on a plaque displayed in the auditorium lobby.
The award honors graduates who exemplify a lifelong commitment to making the world a better place and who take pride in the education they received from Alcona Community Schools. There is no college degree requirement for consideration and alumni may be recognized posthumously. Nominees must be graduates of Alcona High School, with at least 10 years having passed since graduation before eligibility.
Mr. Arthur Good, a proud graduate of Alcona High School Class of 1963, dedicated his life to serving Alcona Community Schools and the greater Alcona County community. A lifelong resident of Alcona County, devoted family man, and steadfast supporter of local education, Arthur left a legacy that continues to impact generations of students and staff.
Arthur worked and volunteered with Alcona Community Schools for more than 56 years. For more than three decades, he served as a bus mechanic, ensuring students arrived safely to and from school each day. Even after retirement, his dedication never wavered as he continued serving the district as a substitute bus driver and later became an integral part of the Alcona FFA Chapter Maple Syrup Production program.
For 19 years, Arthur volunteered alongside the Alcona FFA maple syrup program, dedicating countless hours to mentoring students and supporting the hands-on learning experiences that made the program successful. During that time, students produced approximately 3,500 gallons of maple syrup and collected more than 132,000 gallons of sap with Arthur’s support and guidance. It is estimated that he volunteered well over 5,000 hours with the program during those 19 years alone.
Arthur was known throughout the community as dependable, humble, hardworking, and always willing to help without seeking recognition. Students benefited not only from his tireless work ethic, but also from his wisdom, encouragement, and caring nature. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
Although Arthur is no longer with us, his impact continues to be felt through the countless lives he touched and the example he set for future generations. His legacy serves as a reminder that true distinction is measured not by titles or accolades, but by a lifetime dedicated to serving others with humility, generosity, and heart.
“It is with great pride and deep gratitude that we posthumously recognize Mr. Arthur Good as the 2026 Alcona Community Schools Distinguished Alumni Award recipient,” district officials shared during the ceremony.
Arthur’s family accepted the award on his behalf during the Senior Awards Night ceremony.
