ROGERS CITY — With the different programs through the Presque Isle District Library there’s no reason to hear the words “I’m bored,” from kids this summer.

“There are special events for five weeks (at) all of the five branches,” library Program Director Anne Belanger said. “It’s a really good program this year; bringing the youth and community together to make it more involved.”

Youth Services Librarian Don Dimick said the summer program is called “Build a Better World.” He said its a program used throughout the state and it starts in late June and continues through July.

Dimick said the dates of the reading programs take place on different times and days for the branches.

For the reading program there are suggestions for how much children should try and read. He said there also are extras for entertainment. The Hawk Hill Raptors will have a program at 11 a.m. June 30 at the Onaway Courthouse, 20774 State Street. Zemo the Yo Yo Man will present at 2:30 p.m. July 7 at the Grand Lake Library, 18132 Lake Esau Highway. To perform magic, comedy and more Cameron Zvarra will be in Posen at 11 a.m. July 14 at St. Casimir gym on M-65. Another magician, Ming the Magnificent, will present at 11 a.m. July 21 at the Millersberg Library at 5561 Main Street. Another performer Joel Tacey will perform at 11 a.m. July 28 at the Rogers City Library, 181 E. Erie Street.

Dimick said the program is for students of all ages.

“The most important thing is to keep the reading skills up in the summer so they don’t lose it during school,” he said. ” That’s what we try to do and we also try and have fun to make sure they know the library is fun. Promoting reading is the huge thing for us.”
