ALPENA – The Cliff Revealed: Uncovering America’s First Great Copper Mine is today 2026 at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 140 from noon until 1 p.m.
The Cliff Mine, opened in 1845, was the first profitable copper mine in Michigan’s Lake Copper District. Two decades later, the Cliff was in slow decline while more profitable mining companies rose. Learn about the study and excavation of this living historic landscape by Michigan Technological University researchers. This is a Historical Society of Michigan History Hounds Virtual Lecture offered by ALL at the Madeline Briggs Center.

Journal Writing Wednesday will be from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the ACC Madeline Briggs Center 143
This session invites us to write for ourselves and others. Journal writing is a first step for creating stories, capturing memories, and exploring our ideas and feelings. This is writing for fun and insight in a no-pressure atmosphere. Mary Ann Krajnik Crawford has been a personal journal writer and teacher of writing for many years.
A tour of Brush Creek Mill is on Thursday Thursday from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in Hillman.
As a special treat, Brush Creek Mill has agreed to open early for an exclusive “ALL” tour before our luncheon at the Clubhouse Grill at Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman. Please call the ALL office at 989-358-7207, email all@alpenacc.edu or register online.
The Mill’s mission is to celebrate history, promote learning and demonstrate environmental sustainability through a regional focus and volunteer-based operation. It is open year-round and features a gift shop, a variety of events and activities, a memorial garden on the Brush Creek and the Hillman Area Historical and Genealogy Society’s museum. Each July the Mill hosts “Teeing Up For Kids” golf outing at Thunder Bay Resort. This year, grants totaling $16,000 were distributed to recipients in Hillman, Atlanta and Lewiston schools as well as a few community programs such as the Lions Club backpack program.
The Moveable Feast event will be held at the Clubhouse Grill at the Thunder Bay Resort on Thursday from noon – 1:30 p.m.

Please join the June Moveable Feast at The Clubhouse Grill at Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman. Lunch orders must be called to Jane, 989-255-5673 before Wednesday due to the small kitchen at the resort. The menu is available by email or phone through Jane. Many people travel hours to spend time up North and it is right out our back door. Each attendee is responsible for the cost of their meal and beverage. This hidden gem in the north woods is enjoyed by many who want to experience the quiet and beauty of our northern retreat.
