Thelma Orr scholarship deadline May 1

ALPENA — MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena Volunteer Services Department is offering two $1,500 scholarships for students pursing an education in a human medicine related field with their primary residency in Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle counties.

The Thelma Orr Memorial scholarship is named in honor of Thelma Orr, R.N., director of nursing, and later was a founding Auxiliary member as part of Volunteer Services Department at the Medical Center in Alpena. The scholarship may be used to attend any accredited Michigan college and applicants must be in their second year or more working toward their degree.

Alcona Kindergarten Round-up Wednesday

Alcona Elementary’s Kindergarten Round-up will be held on Wednesday, at 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Students will meet teachers, visit classrooms, get vision and hearing screenings, and more.
