ALPENA — On Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m., the monthly meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was held, with 17 members attending, including Vicki Lucky, the District President, conducting the yearly inspection.
The secretary, treasurer and six committee reports were given. Nancy Flasck reported that she donated four totes of new children’s clothing and 10 homemade afghans to the Foster Closet.
Two members walked in the VJ Day parade in Hillman and handed out 60 American flags, and three members participated in the Tunnel 2 Towers 5K walk, donating over $200.
The auxiliary grave flags have been removed and will be placed again next May. The new Post building doors have been installed.
The Fall Conference will be held Sept. 28-30 at the Gateway Center in Flint.
Members were encouraged to bring canned goods to the next meeting for the Veterans Day food basket drive.
Highway cleanup will take place again on Saturday, Sept.30. Help is needed.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m. and the next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 10.
Used book sale Friday
ALPENA — MyMichigan Medical Center Volunteers will host a used book sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday in the hospital lobby. The public is welcome.
GMDA Oct. 5
ALPENA — The last Good Mid-Day Alpena will be Thursday, Oct. 5, with updates from the City of Alpena and sponsor, Accident Fund Insurance Company of America. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., and the program at noon, at the Alpena Public Safety Facility, 501 W.
