Campus Corner: Posen seniors earn $6K scholarships

POSEN — Madison Kamyszek and Ethan Purol, both seniors at Posen High School, were named among the eight recipients of Holcim’s Gygi and Von Wyss Foundation Scholarship, out of an all-time high nationwide applicant pool of 74 students.

The students’ fathers work at the LaFarge Alpena Plant, which is part of the Holcim family. Holcim, a local leader in sustainable building solutions, has awarded the scholarships for 40 years to support the children of more than 200 Holcim employees.

Kamyszek and Purol each earned a $6,000 scholarship for the 2023-24 school year, with the potential to continue receiving the scholarship for the following three years, based on academic performance.

Purol is heavily involved in extracurriculars at Posen, including FIRST Robotics, basketball, National Honor Society, and Youth Advisory Council; he will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to major in aerospace engineering.

Kamyszek has participated in National Honor Society, SADD, Trip Club, Pep Club, Student Council, Robotics, softball, and volleyball. She will attend Ferris State University to study mechanical engineering.
