Island Park trails cleared of ice storm damage

ALPENA — Many users of Island Park in Alpena will be glad to know that the trails are accessible again after the damage from the most recent ice storm was cleaned up.

Island Park trails were blocked from tree damage, but are now cleaned up thanks to Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary board members and friends. The damage was extensive, according to Boris Gerber, Wildlife Sanctuary chairman.

There were fallen tree limbs and branches which made trails inaccessible. Many trails were also under water in some areas.

The trails are now cleared enough for safe use although much work remains to be done. Leading the clean-up was board member Anna Mitterling.
