ALPENA – First Federal of Northern Michigan Legacy Foundation presented a $600 check to Alpena Street Performers, Inc. as one of their first quarter grant recipients.
The $600 will be used to compensate downtown Alpena Friday Night performers. The Alpena Street Performers is a group of musicians and artists with the mission of encouraging a fun family-friendly atmosphere in downtown Alpena.
Bringing a variety of entertainment to the parks and sidewalks of downtown Alpena on Friday nights during the summer, the group continues to grow and develop their programs. This year they will be adding Live Music Lunch at Culligan Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Past performers have included musicians, vocalists, face painters, magicians, and balloon artists.
To participate, performers are required to obtain a permit from the Alpena Downtown Development Authority and display the permit whenever they perform. To obtain a permit, contact the DDA at 989-356-6422.
The Friday evening downtown performers are scheduled by Chris Lawrence and are paid a small stipend. The Friday night entertainment schedule kicks off from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 27.
