ALPENA — With supplies donated by Home Depot, and craftsmanship provided by Alpena High School students, Thunder Bay Arts is ready to sell over 100 unique birdhouses to the public.

Birdhouses, both painted and plain, will be available for purchase starting on Thursday at the Downtown Alpena Flannel Fun Night from 5 to 8 p.m. The wooden birdhouses will go for $15 per unpainted house, ready for you to add your unique flair, or $25 for an already beautifully painted birdhouse.

“We had four people paint approximately 30 this year,” TBA’s Midge Connon said.

Local artists Pam O’Neil, Don and Jean Stewart, and Pat Manning have painted the birdhouses, ready to become a gorgeous new addition to your yard.

Available in two different styles, the birdhouses could make nice Christmas gifts, Kendziorski said. He and Connon head up this Community Art Project each year for Thunder Bay Arts, working with Zach Grulke’s CTE class to fabricate the project using materials provided by Home Depot of Alpena.

“It’s a wonderful connection to have with these high school kids,” Connon said.

“Normally, we pick up the finished products the week before spring break,” Kendziorski said. “But we couldn’t get into the school this year,” to pick them up because of schools being closed during the pandemic.

When school opened back up this year, they were able to pick up the birdhouses, designed and created by Grulke’s Career and Technical Education class called Algebra and Manufacturing AMP UP!

The birdhouses will be available at Thunder Bay Arts Council Gallery, 127 W. Chisholm St., Alpena. For more information, call 989-356-6678 or visit www.thunderbayarts.org.
