Resources offered for caregivers during outbreak

Region 9 Area Agency on Aging is offering a free, online workshop series for family caregivers. With the current situation of our society, Region 9’s priority is to continue to provide support to local family caregivers who are unable to leave the home because of the coronavirus.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational series designed to provide you with the tools you need to take care of yourself. The program helps family caregivers reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance their lives, increase their ability to make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources.

The interactive online workshop consists of six sessions held once a week. Two experienced class leaders conduct the series. Many are experienced caregivers themselves who have successfully applied the techniques they teach. Interactive lessons, discussions, and brainstorming will help you take the “tools” you choose and put them into action for your life.

Classes will be held online from 1 to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday beginning July 14. Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required. Upon registration you will be given the access code to join the online workshop series.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is sponsored by the Older Americans Act, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Adult Services Agency, and the Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, a division of Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA).
