Moquin named new director at Thunder Bay Theatre

ALPENA — The Thunder Bay Theatre Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of Lucas Moquin as the organization’s Artistic Director. Moquin, a repeat performing artist, choreographer, and most recently an administrative apprentice at Thunder Bay Theatre, will step into his new role as a senior member of the theatre immediately.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that Lucas Moquin will lead Thunder Bay Theatre as its next artistic director,” said Board President Lisa Larkin. “Lucas is a tremendously talented artist, an advocate for inclusivity in the arts, and a beloved member of the Alpena Area theatre community. He knows where TBT has been and has a vision for where the theatre can go in the future. I very much look forward to TBT’s growth under his artistic leadership.”

“I am honored and humbled to be leading Thunder Bay Theatre into its next chapter,” said Moquin. “I feel very grateful to have been able to share my talents with the community over the past four years and I am very much looking forward to continuing the legacy of Thunder Bay Theatre and bringing my own artistic vision for TBT that builds on the theatre’s success and continues to make it a vital, celebrated, and authentic part of people’s lives in Northeast Michigan.”

Moquin’s first task as artistic director will be to coordinate the theatre’s 2020 season and begin casting.

Thunder Bay Theatre’s 2020 season will include: The children’s production of “Pippi Longstocking,” May 7 to 17; “She Loves Me,” June 17 to July 5; “Ring of Fire” in Concert, July 15 to 26; “Chicago,” Aug. 5 to 23; “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Oct. 1 to 18; and “Bye Bye Birdie,” with the Alpena High School Theatre Troupe, Nov. 5 to 22.

Moquin is also workingto create a collaborative production of “A Christmas Carol,” with the Alpena Civic Theatre, AHS Theatre Troupe, and the Alpena Community College Players. In addition to the company’s theatrical work, Moquin and TBT will be hosting an array of special events, including the return of the popular acoustic music series, Coffee House Fridays, the Let’s Talk Panel Discussion Series, Late Night Cabarets, and more.

Conor Larkin will kick off Coffee House Fridays this Friday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 per person, and $2 for coffee. Upcoming performers include Steve Rea on Jan. 24, Charles Madison on Jan. 31, Toby Jones on Feb. 7, and Lee Kitzman on Feb. 14.
