Miss Sunrise Side and Teen 2019 pageant winners crowned

Miss Sunrise Side 2019 and Miss Sunrise Side’s Outstanding Teen 2019 were crowned at the scholarship pageant on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Miss Michigan Mallory Rivard attended and congratulated the winners. The pageant was held at Alcona High School.

This year, 10 contestants ranging from 17 to 25 years old competed for the title of Miss Sunrise Side, and Shelby Lentz earned the crown.Alexis Newcomer was 1st Runner-Up, Sabrina Jeffrey was 2nd Runner-Up, and Taylor Towers was 3rd Runner-Up, and also won the Talent award. Melissa Curtis won the Spirit award, Courtney Winter won the People’s Choice award, and Victoria Otto won the Community Service award.

In the Miss Sunrise Side’s Outstanding Teen contest, six teens age 13 to 17 vied for the title, which Peyton Lowder won. Rylie Dewley was 1st Runner-Up, and Ava Kelly earned 2nd Runner-Up. Lowder won the Talent award, Mahaylie Clay won the Sponsor and People’s Choice awards, and Dewley won the Spirit and Community Service awards.

Other Miss Sunrise Side contestants were Natalie Goff, Annabelle Rowe, and Jaeleen Davis.

Other Miss Sunrise Side’s Outstanding Teen contestants were Mahcayla Nichols and Kaylee Pyscher.

Miss Sunrise Side offers substantial scholarship money, including a $5,000-plus scholarship package to the winner, $750 to the first runner-up, $400, to the second runner-up, $250 to the third runner-up, $100 to the talent winner and $75 each to all non-finalists.

Miss Sunrise Side 2019 will also be able to compete for the title of Miss Michigan in June 2020. Miss Sunrise Side’s Outstanding Teen 2019 can compete for Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen in June 2020.

Tickets to Saturday’s pageant will be sold at the door for $15 apiece. Students who show their school I.D. can pay $10 for their ticket.

Miss Sunrise Side 2019 judges will be Carolyn Daoust, Erin Kieliszewski, Jeffrey Mindock, Sandy Kuohn, and Karen Gauthier Wingart.

Miss Sunrise Side’s Outstanding Teen 2019 judges will be Patty James, DeLynn Lovelace, Julie LaBar, Tabitha Camp, and Josie Agnello-Schmidt.

Pageant sponsors include the Alpena Community College Foundation, Amy Elisabeth Photography, Hillman Extrusion Tool, Inc., Huron Quality, Alcona Tool, Lasting Expresssions Flowers, Gillies Funeral Home, Lost Lake Woods Club, Stephenson & Company P.C. of East Tawas, and the Bistro Restaurant.

Miss Sunrise Side Board of Directors are Executive Director Ann Kramer, board members Paul Kramer, Alexandra Yokom, Ava Budreau, Vanessa Pender, and Tina Smigelski. Judges Chair is Ilona Breitmeyer, choreographer is Linda Samuel, and sound is run by Rex Manning.
