Immanuel garage sale Saturday

Immanuel Lutheran Church will hold its 29th annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alpena County Fairgrounds.

Since its inception, the sale has raised more than $130,000 used to benefit dozens of church and community causes.

Some of this year’s proceeds will go to Friends Together Alpena’s Cancer Fund and the Boys and Girls Club of Alpena.

6-week trauma course starts Wed.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network curriculum, “Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma,” is being offered in a six-week course from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the First Presbyterian Church social hall in Alpena.

This Wednesday is the first session. Tuesday is the last day to register by phone for this free class, funded by Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority. To register, call 989-356-2880 or 1-800-354-2880.

Trainers are Carlene Przykucki and Mary Schalk of Partners in Prevention, and Meg Nisbet of Hope Shores Alliance.

AHS Class of 1979 to meet Wed.

The Alpena High School Class of 1979 reunion committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the 19th Hole.

Their 40th reunion will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. July 6 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Alpena.

Eagles to host Polish dinner Wed.

Alpena Eagles 1241 will host a Polish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, while supplies last.

Dinner is $10 per adult. The menu includes cabbage rolls, pierogies, kielbasa and kraut, potato dumplings and fresh bread and butter. Carryouts are available by calling 989-354-4577. Dinner will be served at 1960 M-32 West.

Griffon wreck lecture rescheduled

The Ongoing Quest for the Wreck of the Griffon, in the Sanctuary Lecture Series at NOAA’s Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, has been rescheduled to May 22. It had been previously planned for this week.

Presented by Dean L. Anderson, state archaeologist with the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office, this free public presentation will be at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
