Szymanski wins 2 events for Alpena

FLINT– Madi Szymanski showed no signs of rust at Friday’s Shake Off the Rust Invitational, winning both the 800 (2:31.58) and 1,600 (5:25.16) runs. Szymanski was also part of Alpena’s 1,600 relay team that finished fourth, with Tiffany Foster, Abigail Obryan and Hannah Tracey (5:11.52).

Alpena’s girls team finished sixth overall. Brittany Mischloney finished third in the discus (78-2) and fourth in the shot put (28-1).

Alpena’s boys team finished eighth overall. Hayden Allen finished sixth in both the 1,600 run (4:55.21) and 3,200 run (10:34.83); Noah Lytle was fourth in the pole vault (7-0) and the 3,200 relay team of Hayden Allen, Elijah Allen, Jacob Kochanski and Hunter Hitzelberger finished fourth (9:06.40).

GIRLS TENNIS

Alpena 7, Boyne City 1

The Wildcats won all but one doubles flight on Thursday against Boyne City.

In singles competition, No. 2 singles Arlene Dai won 2-0, 2-0; No. 3 singles Madi Speaks won 2-0, 2-0; No. 4 singles Emilee Spomer won 2-0, 2-0 and No. 1 singles Gwyn DenBleyker won 2-0, 2-0.

In doubles action, No. 1 doubles Amelia Berles and Tilly Williams won 2-0, 2-0; No. 2 singles Josie Baker and Bekah Carlson won 2-0, 2-0; No. 3 singles Megan Brown and Kalan McConnell won 8-6 and No. 4 doubles Grace Edgekoski and Olivia Burdinie lost 0-8.
