PREP ROUNDUP: Cadillac tops Alpena; Posen holds off Hillman
Cadillac 48, Alpena 37
CADILLAC–Keegan Hahn scored 17 points and Cooper Bright added 12 for the Wildcats (2-5), who kept pace with the Vikings in the first half, but struggled in the second on Tuesday.
Cadillac led 26-23 at halftime and outscored Alpena 16-6 in the third quarter to pull away.
“We had a good first half and I thought we did a lot of good things,” Alpena coach John Pintar said. “The third quarter was our undoing. We did a poor job offensively and defensively. We kept it close (early), but couldn’t provide enough offense to keep it close.”
Alpena’s JV team lost 49-29. Brady Pagels led Alpena with 13 points and Devin LaMay had seven.
Alpena’s freshman team won 35-21. Avery Samp had 14 points and Carter Stark had eight.
Posen 61, Hillman 57
HILLMAN–Lucas Stone scored 22 points and overcame some foul trouble to help the Vikings stay perfect in North Star League play and hold off a spirited comeback from Hillman on Tuesday.
Posen (4-1, 4-0 NSL) canned six three-pointers and got out to a 26-10 lead after one quarter.
rPosen overcame some foul trouble in the second quarter and got solid minutes out of its bench to take a 37-27 halftime lead.
Chase Dubie added 18 points for Posen and Joey Konieczny had nine.
“We started hot and everybody was knocking down shots. We were down our starting point guard, but the guys held it together,” Posen coach Chris Keller said. “I was pretty happy with how we weathered the storm in the second quarter.”
Hillman (4-2, 3-2 NSL) did all it could to rally, outscoring Posen in the fourth quarter and cutting the lead down to two in the final minutes. Trenton Taratuta led Hillman with 27 points and Sean Henigan had nine.
“It’s a pretty big improvement for us. We lost 64-37 to them the first time, so that’s a 27-point improvement,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. “Hopefully we’re improving.”
Both teams are on the road Thursday. Hillman plays at Au Gres and Posen plays at Hale.
Rogers City 57, Whittemore-Prescott 26
WHITTEMORE–Nick Freel scored 25 points as the Hurons jumped all over the Cardinals from the opening tip on Tuesday. Matt Newhouse added 11 for Rogers City (3-3), which led 50-6 at halftime and limited Whittemore to single digits offensively in each of the first three quarters. Freel finished the night with five three-pointers and scored 14 points in the first quarter alone. Dylan LaFleche added six points for Rogers City and Andrew Woloszyk had five.
