PREP ROUNDUP: Onaway netters win SVC opener
CENTRAL LAKE–The Onaway volleyball team won its Ski Valley Conference opener on Tuesday, beating Central Lake, 25-11, 25-22, 25-23.
Lexi Horton had seven kills, three aces, three digs and a block for the Cardinals (3-6, 1-0 SVC) and Breya Domke had eight kills, five aces, eight digs and three blocks.
Aubrey Benson had four kills and three blocks; Cloe Ehrke had 17 assists, five aces and 13 digs; Nicole Larson had four kills, three aces and three digs; Jazmyn Friant had six digs and a block; and Macie Decker had five digs.
“Our ball control was improved. We still had a few errors, but our decision making was better,” Onaway coach Steve Watson said.
Onaway plays at Petoskey on Saturday.

Alpena match canceled
The Alpena boys tennis team’s match will Petoskey was canceled on Tuesday due to weather. The Wildcats are scheduled to return to action on Thursday when they host Cadillac.

Alcona opens season in West Branch
WEST BRANCH–The Alcona Cross Country team competed in its first meet of the season Thursday, Sept. 3, at Ogemaw Heights High School. The Tigers performed very well as Sara Decker, Karen Sharboneau and Carter Upper received medals. The high school and middle school teams next meet will be held Wednesday in Standish at 4 p.m.
