PREP ROUNDUP: Oscoda stays undefeated with win over Mio; Posen tops Eagles

MIO — The Oscoda boys basketball team proved again Tuesday that it is going to take quite a team and quite an effort to defeat a team that is firing on all cylinders.

The Owls swept the regular season series with Mio, defeating the Thunderbolts 62-47 on Friday.

Two of the top players in the area shined as Mio’s Drew Hess scored a game-high 30 points, but it wasn’t enough as Owen Franklin scored 27 for Oscoda and the Owls got 23 points out of Gavin Lueck and Oscoda earned a road victory.

The Owls improve to 11-0 and will host Tawas on Tuesday.

Posen 67,

Fairview 42

FAIRVIEW — The Posen boys basketball team got off to a fast start and rolled to a convincing 67-42 victory over Fairview on Friday.

The Vikings were led by Lucas Stone and Eyan Hincka who each recorded double-doubles. Stone scored a team high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Hincka finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Wyatt Romel added 12 points and dished out six assists and Cameron Paull chipped in with 12 points.

Eight out Posen’s nine players dressed crack the scoring column in the win as the Vikings improve to 8-4 overall on the year.

“It was a great team effort and it was nice to be able to get everyone in tonight and see everyone contribute,” Posen coach Chris Keller said.

The Vikings will travel to Au Gres on Tuesday.

Hale 77,

Hillman 41

HALE — The Hillman boys basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive game on Monday, falling to Hale 77-41.

Joe Kimmerer led the Eagles with a a game high 22 points in the win.

Hillman was led by Isaac Morrison who scored 19 points.

“We were sloppy tonight and got into foul trouble early,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. “We fell behind big early and just didn’t recover.”

The Tigers fall to 3-8 overall on the year.

Hillman will host Atlanta on Monday.

Pellston 66,

Onaway 54

ONAWAY — The Onaway boys basketball team dug itself a hole it just couldn’t get out of in Friday’s 66-54 loss to Pellston.

The Cardinals struggled in the second and third quarters and fell behind by 29 points and the Hornets were able to cruise to a win despite Onaway’s attempt to make cut into the score in the final quarter.

“We couldn’t make a basket and were ice cold in the second and third quarter,” Onaway coach Eddy Szymoniak said. “We dug to big of a hole and couldn’t get out of it. That’s been the story of our season.”

Kevin Pearson led the Cardinals with 28 points. Jager Mix finished with 19 points and Austin Nash added eight points.

Onaway travels to Rogers City on Monday.

Alcona 71,

Tawas 58

LINCOLN — The Alcona boys basketball team scored in bunches and defeated Tawas on Friday by a score of 71-58.

Aidan Wrobel poured in a team high 19 points for the Tigers. Dominic Howe and Mason Clark each finished with 16 points apiece and DJ Howe added nine points in the win.

Au Gres 44, Atlanta 41

AU GRES–The Atlanta boys basketball team fell by a slim margin on Thursday, losing to Au Gres 44-41.

Zach Roux scored 20 points and added 13 rebounds, three blocks and three steals for the Huskies (5-7), who struggled at the free throw line, missing 15 attempts.

Atlanta plays at Hillman on Monday.
