UNIVERSITY CENTER–The Alpena Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams came out on the losing end of matchups with Delta College on Saturday.

The ACC women’s team lost to the Pioneers 62-52. Alpena (3-11) kept things close for the first, third and fourth quarters, but Delta outscored Alpena 14-5 in the second quarter to get enough of an edge.

Both teams were tied 14-14 after one quarter, Delta led 28-19 at halftime and 48-33 after three quarters.

Alpena shot 26% from the field and was 19-for-39 from the free throw line.

Brooke Nguyen led Alpena with 19 points off the bench and Emma Jore had six points, 20 rebounds and eight steals.

The ACC men’s team fell behind early to Delta and never recovered. Alpena (0-14) trailed 45-26 at halftime and was outscored 38-33 in the second half.

ACC shot 41% from the field and was 10-of-19 from the charity stripe.

Isaac Hogsett led ACC with 16 points, Chris DeRocher had 14 points and eight rebounds and Logan Guenther had 10 points.

Both teams play at St Clair on Monday. ACC’s women’s team will play at 5:30 p.m. and ACC’s men’s team will play at 7:30 p.m.
