LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: AHS softball takes 15-7 win
The Wildcats softball team played in Alpena against Traverse City West on Tuesday.
Due to weather delays, only one game was played and Alpena took the win with a final score of 15-7.
TC West jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but AHS answered with one of their own in the bottom of the first and tied it up in the second inning. In the third, the Wildcats exploded with seven runs.
A quiet fourth inning led to neither team scoring.
Both teams exchanged scoring runs in the final three innings with Alpena eventually taking the 15-7 win.
Paige Samp pitched the complete game, allowing only six hits and collecting ten strikeouts. Samp helped herself with a home run as part of the seventeen hits Alpena collected on the day.
Laura Poli led the offense going four for four at the plate. Izzy Edmonds added three hits. Lily Rospierski, Sydney Hitzelberger, Emilee Modrzejewksi, and Avery Dubey each had two hits.
ALPENA GOLF TAKES SIXTH
Alpena High School’s boys’ golf team competed in Cadilac on Wednesday, rounding out the day with a score of 356.
In the Cadillac’s BNC Invitational, the team placed sixth of ten teams.
Avery Spice and Preston Schuldt led the team with scores of 85 each.
Junior Varsity also competed, shooting a 407 behind Andrew Glomski’s 92.
