DeRocher named AD at ACC

Cindy DeRocher has been named the new athletic director at Alpena Community College, replacing longtime AD Frank McCourt, who announced his retirement as of July 1.

DeRocher, who has previously served as the assistant director at ACC as well as the assistant women’s basketball coach, steps in for McCourt after returning to ACC in 2017. DeRocher returned and took the Director of Student Life and Campus Housing position with the college’s College Park Apartments.

“We’re delighted to have Cindy DeRocher ready to transition into the Athletic Director position. An ACC grad and stellar basketball player and coach, she brings passion, leadership, experience, and institutional knowledge to the position. Working with a solid team of coaches, we believe she’ll do a great job leading athletics at ACC,” ACC President Don MacMaster said in a press release.

DeRocher played for ACC’s women’s basketball team under McCourt from 1980-1982 before going on to a Hall of Fame coaching career at Tri-State (now Trine University) in Indiana. She won more than 200 games and was named to Trine’s Hall of Fame in 2003.

DeRocher was also inducted into the Alpena Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

McCourt has been involved with ACC athletics continuously since 1973, whether as a coach or in an administrative position. In 2017, he announced his retirement as head coach of the men’s basketball program.

“Frank McCourt has given decades of commendable leadership to student-athletes at Alpena Community College,” MacMaster said in a press release. “I encounter many of them now in their adult lives who speak about his influence with the utmost regard and respect. I personally want to thank Frank for his legacy of inspired commitment to ACC. He made a career here and the College and the community are better places for it.”
