Posen softball team secures Little Dipper division championship

HALE–The Posen softball team ended its regular season on a satisfying note on Friday.

Posen broke open a pair of close games with Hale to clinch the North Star League’s Little Dipper division title after 22-3 and 14-2 wins.

Posen (16-8, 7-1 NSL Little Dipper) led 5-3 after three innings in the opener and added nine more runs in the fourth inning and eight in the fifth inning.

Hannah Stone was 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI; Brooke Ciarkowski was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Lizzy Romel, Ava Wesner and Faith Cousins each had three hits.

Makayla Kamyszek earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Posen held a 5-2 lead after three innings in the nightcap, but caught fire again with seven runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.

Riley Krajniak was 3-for-4 with a triple for Posen and Kamyszek was 4-for-4 with a home run. Romel and Wesner each had three hits.

Krajniak earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in three innings.

“The kids played hard today and got a couple of wins knowing what was at stake,” Posen coach Wayne Karsten said.

BASEBALL

Posen splits with Hale

HALE–The Posen baseball team split a pair of North Star League doubleheader with Hale on Friday.

Posen won the opener 8-3 and dropped the nightcap 3-1.

Posen held a 2-1 lead after one inning of the opener and pulled away from Hale with a three-run third inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Vikings added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.

Lucas Mercier, Chase Dubie, Jared Sharpe and Lucas Stone each had two hits for Posen. Sharpe had three RBI and Jared Kamyszek had a pair of RBI.

Sharpe earned the win for Posen, allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Posen held a 1-0 lead through four and a half innings. The Vikings’ lone run came in the top of the third inning when Stone stole home.

The lead held until the bottom of the fifth inning when Hale broke through. The Eagles got a run on a sac fly to tie the game and then used a pair of errors to push across two more runs.

Dubie and Stone both had a pair of hits for Posen. Kamyszek took the loss for the Vikings, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
