Tigers sweep Snowbirds at home; Huskies beaten by Mio

HILLMAN–Communication once again proved to be important for the Hillman volleyball team on Wednesday.

The Tigers swept Gaylord St. Mary in three sets at home, but started each set slow. When communication improved, so did Hillman’s scores.

The Tigers won 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18.

“We finally started to communicate more on the court. Each game started off slow because we weren’t talking,” Hillman coach Kim Weiland said. “We started communicating better, figuring out where everyone was going to be on the floor and calling out plays.”

Alison Samp had 15 digs and 18 assists for the Tigers and Anna Callender had six kills. Emilee Noffze had seven kills and Brooke Jones had six kills and 18 digs.

Hillman hosts Oscoda tonight in a North Star League match.

Mio 3, Atlanta 0

MIO–The shorthanded Atlanta volleyball team played hard on Wednesday, but was swept by Mio in a North Star League match.

Mio won 25-12, 25-8 and 25-19.

Atlanta coach Dawn McSwain praised her team’s effort even as the Huskies have dealt with a recent rash of injuries.

“Their hearts are in it, but it’s been a trying season,” she said.

Andrea Jadrych had six kills and four aces for Atlanta and Marisa Perry had four aces and two kills.
