Vikings open season with weekend sweep of Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — The Posen baseball team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Bridgeport, winning games by scores of 11-4 and 12-10.

Jared Sharpe took the hill in game one and dazzled, tossing four innings and not allowing an earned run, while striking out nine batters to pick up the win. George Crowell pitched the final two innings and also did not allow an earned run.

Sharpe was just as productive at the plate as he was on the mound as he led Posen going 2-for-3. Chase Shellie began a good weekend by going 3-for-4.

The Vikings were able to prevail in what was a wild nightcap. Despite committing several errors, Posen was able to win a high-scoring game.

Jared Kamischiak started the game and pitched three innings to pick up the win. Avery Werth pitched the final three innings and struck out five batters.

At the plate, Shellie capped off a big day going 2-for-4 in the win. George Styma, Mark Wisniewski and Levi Romel each had two hits apiece as well. Wisniewski and Romel both double in the game.

The Vikings start the season 2-0 and will host Harbor Springs on Tuesday.
