Lumberjacks drop doubleheader to Mott

FLINT–The Alpena Community College softball team played well enough to win on Friday, but had trouble bringing runners home in a doubleheader loss to Mott, 5-1 and 3-0.

“We were competing and those are steps forward,” ACC coach Shelly Hance said. “We’re going to go back to working on the core basics. We’ve got to be willing to swing at anything close.”

In the opener, Kendra Cole started for the Lumberjacks (1-6) and was later relieved by Kelsey Huffman. Alexa Quaine led ACC at the plate, going 2-for-3.

In the second game, Ashley Meyers got the start for ACC and Huffman again came on in relief in the late innings. Kayla Lenard, Taylor Huffman, Kelsey Huffman and Kailey Hunt all had hits.

ACC plays a doubleheader at Delta today with the games scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
