Larry Ellis Adams, 77, of Presque Isle passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Munson Healthcare in Traverse City.
Larry was born on September 11, 1947, in South Lyon to the late Ernest and Ozelle G. (Galey) Adams. He was a veteran in the 4th infantry division of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. Larry earned several medals including a purple heart after he lost his leg in 1967 fighting for his country and received an honorable discharge. Before retiring to the summer cottage Itty Bitty Fishy on beautiful Grand Lake, Larry retired from General Motors as an auto worker. He married his childhood sweetheart Rae Margaret Poirier Adams in 1987 after both Larry and Rae reunited after 20 years. He will be missed for his talent as a jokester, a storyteller, and as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Larry enjoyed playing Keno, his Grand Lake cottage, and meeting friends at the Hide A Way. He had a well lived life with an ability to stay positive despite many life challenges.
Surviving are his wife, Rae; son, Shane (Elizabeth) Adams; daughter, Hayley (Adam) Taylor; stepchildren, Karman Tankersley, Andrea (Orlando) Berlanga; three grandchildren, Zachary (Jordan) Adams, Baylee Adams, Griffin Taylor; nieces and nephews, Vicki (Don) Cauthen, Faith Ann (Bob) Anderson, Catherine Gwinn, Steven (Gloria) Sauvageau; and many great nieces and nephews. He had many family, friends and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him loved him. He loved his wife, children, and his grandchildren immensely and was so excited to meet his new grandson, Davian Larry in 2025.
Larry was preceded in death by his nine siblings, Bobby Adams, John Adams, Barbara Parrish, Don Adams, Sandy Donaldson, Fay Malice, Marsha Vaughn, Betty Adams, and Gary Adams.
A celebration of life will take place at the Hide A Way Bar and Grill from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
