Flyers avenge loss to Tri City

BAY CITY–The Alpena Flyers rebounded from a tough loss on Friday with a convincing win on Saturday, downing the Tri City Icehawks 5-2.

Alpena led 3-0 after two periods and held off a charge by the Icehawks in the third period before skating away with the win.

Rhett Limback scored twice for the Flyers (18-16-6) who avenged a 3-2 loss to Tri City on Friday.

Limback connected on the power-play at 1:41 in the first period with assists from Conner Allen and Dean Schmanski to give Alpena a 1-0 lead.

Alpena converted twice more on the power-play as Nic Baranyai scored at 7:01 in the second period and Hunter Tolsdorf added a tally with the man advantage at 3:09 in the third period, putting Alpena ahead 4-0.

Limback added an even strength goal at 13:11 in the middle frame and Schmanski added an insurance goal at 17:55 in the third period after Tri City cut the lead to 4-2.

Allen had three assists for Alpena and Baranyai, Schmanski, Jacob Hamp and Noah Van Dusen each had one.

Alpena goaltender Trevor McConnell made 19 saves in the win.

The Flyers will play on the road against the Motor City Hawks on Friday and Saturday.
