Blockheads 12U team wins tourney title in Vassar

The Thunder Bay 12U Blockheads baseball team notched its first tournament victory of the year this past weekend in Vassar. This group has now reached a total of 11 tournament championship games out of 13 tournaments played, earning six tournament titles and five runner-up finishes. The team endured very cold, wet, windy, near-freezing conditions this past weekend. The team got off to a slow start against a very competitive Millington Cardinals team, winning 3-1. After the first-game jitters in the cold, the team warmed up and exploded offensively, winning its next three games convincingly by mercy rule on their way to the title. For the second tournament in a row, the Blockheads went off on the opposition’s pitching staff, belting eight home runs in the four games they played. Noah Marquardt, Ryan Lee and Travis Weide each hit two dingers and Matthew Thompson and Keegan Hahn each had one.

The Blockheads will next be in Bridgeport over the Memorial Day weekend for the second annual Memorial Day Battle of the Bats.
