Hillman boys, Alcona girls lead small schools at W-P track meet

WHITTEMORE-The Hillman boys track team took first place in the small school division during a meet at Whittemore-Prescott on Friday.

Hillman finished with 150 points ahead of Hale (134); Alcona (118); Rogers City (82); Mio (34); Posen (28) and Skeels (18).

Top finishers for Hillman were: Billy Kolcan in the high jump (5th, 5-10) and the 400 dash (2nd, 53.68); Matt Hunt in the 100 hurdles (6th, 18.69); Brandon Banks in the 800 run (3rd, 2:10.6) and 1,600 run (4:52.26) and Sheldon Elkie in the 300 hurdles (44.38).

Alcona’s top finishers included: the 400 relay team (3rd); Dakota Oke in the 200 dash (2nd) and 100 dash (6th); Cody Leeseburg in the 200 dash (7th) and long jump (6th); Hunter Clark in the shot put (2nd) and discus (4th); John Sharboneau in the shot put (3rd); Kyle Thum in the 3,200 run (2nd), 1,600 run (2nd) and 800 run (5th); Mitchel Havercroft in the 400 dash (3rd); Alex Harmon in the 400 dash (6th); the 3,200 relay team (1st); the 1,600 relay team (2nd); Jordan Steiner in the 100 dash (4th); Jeff Schram in the 800 run (2nd); Elliot Dubuque in the 1,600 run (8th) and the 800 relay team (1st).

Alcona won the girls division with 120 points ahead of Rogers City (113), Hillman (100), Posen (95), Mio (73), Hale (52) and Skeels (20).

Top finishers for Alcona were: Torie Harmon in the 400 dash (1st, 1:02.77) and 800 run (2:33.47); Sam Schott in the shot put (5th) and discus (3rd); Sarah Sweet in the long jump (3rd); the 3,200 relay team (1st); Rachel Warner in the 100 dash (2nd); the 800 relay team (2nd); the 400 relay team (1st); the 1,600 relay team (1st) and Harlie Lafond in the 3,200 run (4th).

SOFTBALL

Alcona beats, ties Mio

LINCOLN-The Alcona softball team won a game and tied another game with Mio in a North Star League doubleheader on Thursday.

Alcona won the opener 5-0 and the two teams played to a 7-7 tie in the second game.
