Travel Soccer

The Alpena U14 girls travel soccer team played two home games this weekend and earned two wins.

Game 1 was against Gaylord and Alpena won 2-0. About halfway through the second half Mollie Girard scored on a beautiful direct kick from a wide angle. Alpena controlled play and got a second goal when Anna Young scored from Kennedy Kaiser. Kaiser also rang one off the crossbar just after that. The defense, especially Taylor Tolsdorf and Elly Clark were tough and so was keeper Macy Dickinson who earned a shutout.

Game 2 was against Traverse City NorthStar 3 and Alpena won the game 2-0. Alpena’s Anna Young pressured TC’s keeper and put a clear attempt into the net about 20 minutes into the game. Alpena struggled to get scoring chances because TC played back and packed in their defense. Mollie Girard scored from a corner kick unassisted in the second half. Macy Dickinson played tough on defense and Elly Clark earned a shutout in net.

The Alpena FC U11 girls travel soccer team hosted games in Alpena last weekend and went 1-1 in two games. In the first game, Alpena defeated Cheboygan 4-2. Alpena’s Eve Dragiewicz scored the game’s first goal off a pass from Reese Wisniewski. After going into half with the game tied 1-1, Alpena sealed the victory with three more goals in the second half. Second half goal scoring came from Marah Wisniewski off an assist from Maggie Kelly and Maggie Kelly netted two goals with assists coming from Reese Wisniewski and Faith Dragiewicz.

In the second game, Alpenaplayed a very tough and experienced team from Glen Lake and fell 1-0. Alpena showed great improvement as, previously in the year, Alpena was beaten 4-0 and 7-0 by the same team. Alpena’s defensive force of Marah Wisniewski, Laurel Alberts, Annabell Kauffman and Ezrah Williams did outstanding holding the offensive might of Glen Lake while Goal Keepers Mariah Braidwood and Faith Dragiewicz made outstanding saves throughout the game. Offensively Alpena had multiple shots on goal however was not able to hit the back of the net.

Alpena will be back in action Saturday in Gaylord facing off against Charlevoix and Glen Lake.

The Alpena U14 girls travel soccer team played in a tournament in Traverse City this weekend and finished 1-2 in three games. In Game 1, Harbor Springs beat Alpena 3-0 and in Game 2, Charlevoix edged Alpena 2-1. Alpena’s Alexis Jones scored off of a Macy Dickinson direct kick to tie the score in the second half in a losing cause against Charlevoix.

In Game 3, Alpena defeated a Traverse City team 6-0. In the first half, Anna Young scored from Hannah Burger and Mollie Girard scored from Elly Clark. Addison Marceau had an excellent game on defense. In the second half, Anna Young scored from Mollie Girard and Mollie Girard scored on a corner kick from Macy Dickinson. Hannah Burger put in a rebound from a Sarah Campbell shot for the fifth goal. Mollie Girard completed a hat trick, on her birthday, assisted by Nicole Johnson.

Alpena will play two home games on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
