Kudos to a recent display of good manners

On the evening of Saturday, Aug. 26, the Alpena High School Class of 1959 held our 64th class reunion at JJ’s Restaurant. A good time was had by all.

I wish to share an incident that touched our hearts……at the end of the evening, three of us gathered the decorations and memorabilia and were leaving. I picked up all the balloons, wondering what I was going to do with them .

Just as I had that thought, four little boys came riding by on their bikes holding ice cream cones. They were about 10 years old. I said, “Hey guys, does anyone want a balloon?” You would have thought I had said, “Hey guys, does anyone want a million dollars?” They were overjoyed yelling “Yes and whose birthday is it? and “Thank you so much.” They all stopped so I gave them the balloons.

In the process, one of the boys dropped his ice cream. He didn’t want to leave until it was cleaned up, so we helped him. We were so impressed.

I’m glad we got to meet these boys, even though it was temporary, it gave us hope for their generation. Kudos to their parents for raising them to have good manners and respect and for making us smile.
