I support removal of fluoride from our water

Thank you for your article in the paper last week about the decision to add silicofluorides to our water supply or discontinue its use completely. I did some research online and found some very interesting information that inspired me to write this letter. For those of you who want to read the first paragraph only, I strongly support removing any form of silicofluorides and fluorides from our city water.

Do you know that fluoride is a toxic chemical and a byproduct of phosphate fertilizer production? Because fluoride is so toxic, it is removed from the fertilizer and “conveniently” put into our toothpaste and our water supply.

Look at your tube of toothpaste and find the warning: “If swallowed, call poison control.” Why would that be? Don’t you wonder why children are strongly told NOT to ever swallow toothpaste?

We are all exposed to chemicals that are harmful and damaging to our health. Why would we willingly put an even more toxic form of fluoride into our drinking water? Our Great Lakes are a singularly pure Michigan resource and we need to protect ourselves from the many, many toxins around us. For those who want to continue to have fluoride for their teeth, toothpaste and an appointment with your dentist for a fluoride treatment is simple enough. My lawn, my dishes, clothes, and car do not need to be fluoridated.

For the small amount of water we use to brush our teeth and rinse, adding any form of fluoride is a wasteful, dangerous and expensive addition to our water supply. Improve our city water supply to make it as clean and uncontaminated as possible.
