On virus, acting like grownups will help all

Thank you to Alpena Police Department, Montmorency County Sheriff Chad Brown, and Alcona County Sheriff Scott Stephenson for protecting citizens against COVID-19 infection by enforcing Gov. Gretchen Whitemer’s “Stay At Home” order now extended to May 15, 2020.

Dear impatient ones: self-restraint, logic, compassion, and acting like grownups will help everyone.

It is not about the economy, it is about saving lives — maybe yours — and ending the stay at home order by all wearing masks when you go out, washing hands often, and following all the guidelines to keep from spreading the virus.

The sooner we “lock out” the contagion from reaching people, the sooner we will be able to “go out.” The rest of us are putting up with the “fight to win over COVID-19, please do not make our sacrifices and efforts null.

If you personally choose the economy over lives, remember what happened in Flint. Former businessman and Republican governor Rick Synder ended up poisoning Flint’s children and adults when he tried to save a buck. The children will be suffering the effects of lead poisoning their entire lives. We learn from this.

Thank you to all who are cooperating, volunteering, cheering each other up, working at risky jobs and all who wear masks when they go out.

MARY ALICE COMAR,

Ossineke
