The Giving Tuesday editorial in the Nov. 30 edition of The Alpena News, while good-intentioned, is misleading. First, Giving Tuesday is an international day of charitable giving that is now in its eighth year, not its fifth. While the editorial focused on the great work of our local Community Foundation, there are many other local, national, and international nonprofits deserving of our charitable gifts on Giving Tuesday. Your giving on that day is not restricted to the 60 organizations partnered with the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan. I hope that all who are lucky enough to have a little extra, found one or a handful of nonprofits close to your heart and made a gift this Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3.
