Sunken Lake Park is a regional treasure

Although Sunken Lake Park sits in Presque Isle County, it is a treasure to the Alpena Parks and Recreation Department. I like to camp and this park is close to home, a real convenience. Through the years, park managers have come and gone, as well as park hosts. I really would like to commend the current manager and hosts for the big improvements to the park in the last couple of years. The play area for the kids has lots of new equipment; the bathrooms are much cleaner, no rusty sinks, showers, or toilets. This year I decided to take a seasonal campsite because of these improvements. My friends and I spent the July 4 holiday there. We had so much fun! There were 50/50’s every night, which proceeds from last year paid for a new swim raft and swim trampoline; karaoke Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, many of the campers brought their lawn chairs and enjoyed the singing from young and old; and fireworks on the Fourth donated by a camper. Kudos to the Alpena County Parks and Recreation for this little gem of a campground and the people who manage it. I hope to be a seasonal camper for many years to come!
