Vote yes to support library millage renewal

I would like to express my support for the upcoming Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library millage. The library is a place for ALL of us and we are very fortunate to have such a wonderful community library.

I personally have utilized the library for a Snow Shoe Class, enjoyed a concert by the Moxie Strings, yummy cooking classes by Eric Peterson, received help with my taxes and various other meetings and trainings. Most recently, I enjoyed pie-maker extraordinaire and author Lisa Ludwinski’s presentation and purchased her cookbook “Sister Pie.”

The library has free tutoring, free internet use, free movies, free book rentals, free library programs and author talks. Did I say FREE? It is also the shipwrecks database AND so much more!

I encourage everyone to take a minute and go out to the library website or Facebook page and see what the library has to offer — so many wonderful events and opportunities! Our library is such a valuable asset in our community and we need to keep it in the best condition possible.

The millage request is to renew a 0.25 mill levy that expires this year. It is for 20 years and would not cost taxpayers any additional taxes.

The much needed renovations are to make the library a safer place, reduce operating costs and create a better library — funds are needed for these major improvements NOW.

I urge you to vote YES and show your support on Aug. 6 to renew the library millage.

DENISE TOBIAS,

Alpena
