No, no, no on Whitmer’s gas tax hike

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign slogan of “fix the damn roads” should not translate into an additional 45 cents per gallon gasoline tax for Michiganders, as proposed by her state budget request. We just had a gasoline tax increase in 2017 of 7.3 cents per gallon. If this increase is approved by the state Legislature, it would pole-vault us into the atmosphere of state gasoline taxes at 71 cents per gallon.

Plopping a 45-cent-per-gallon tax increase into the laps of Michiganders is not right and it’s not fair. Maybe the citizens of Michigan should adopt their own slogan … “nix the darn tax loads.”
