Congrats to all on Harrisville ice rink

Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ideas, and it doesn’t take a major, multimillion-dollar project to add real value to a community.

Case in point: Harrisville’s new ice rink, which already has brought great joy to residents, made the city a more attractive place to visit, and only cost the city about $1,000 to install.

“It has already been popular and used quite a bit,” Harrisville Mayor Jeff Gehring told reporter Steve Schulwitz for a recent story. “People are just happy to have another activity available for them. We are tickled to be able to do this. It is a small gesture that is important to the people.”

City crews will maintain the rink, another small investment with a big return.

Congratulations to city officials and anyone else who helped bring this plan to fruition. Here’s hoping it inspires others, as it inspired us, to recognize that “thinking big” for a community doesn’t have to mean spending big.
