The world has lost another wonderful man. Robert “Bob” William Barlomiej passed away June 22, 2022 at his home. Robert was born in Alpena, Michigan on Aug. 30, 1936. The son of the late Walter and Rose (Hilla) Bartlomiej, Bob graduated the Class of 1955 from Alpena Catholic Central High School. While in high school and shortly thereafter, he started his work years at the A & P grocery store. Later he joined and served his country in the United States Army. Gary John Hartman, 85, of Alpena passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, at MediLodge of Alpena. Gary was born in Alpena on Aug. 21, 1936, to the late Ernest and June (Sanborn) Hartman. He married Mary Ellen Henry on July 11, 1959. He was a four-year veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the Escort Destroyer USS Foss; and he witnessed 18 atomic and two hydrogen bomb detonations as part of Operation Hard Tack at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Dorothy Martin, 81, of Alpena passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Dorothy Luft was born March 11, 1941, in Lenawee County, Michigan. She enjoyed crocheting, farming, gardening, and flowers. Surviving are her two children, Brenda (Kevin) Struzik, Randy Martin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, James Martin; brother, Lyle Luft; and sister, Mary Luft. Cremation arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.
Wayne Alfred Pake passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2022, at the age of 80. Wayne was born on Nov. 11, 1941, in Alpena to the late George R. and Linda R. (Kirschner) Pake. On Oct. 22, 1971, he married Holly Keiser. He worked for the cement companies (Huron Cement, National Gypsum and Lafarge) for 40 years while managing terminals along the Great Lakes and in various locations in the United States and Canada. Colleen Gail ‘Cleo’ Smolinski, 67, of Posen passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 with her family by her side at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena from COVID.
